APLN-NYC Speaker Guidelines

Thank you for your interest to participate in our upcoming APLN NYC Chapter Meetings. We are always interested to hear about interesting topics and your proposal. Please submit your proposal informally per e-mail. Below are a few guidelines to help you prepare for your presentation after your proposal has been accepted.

Who we are?

APLN was founded in 2004 by a group of people who are active in writing about, practicing, and evangelizing the movement towards fast, flexible, customer value driven approaches to leading projects of many types. Although this organization is separate from the Agile Alliance, our intention is to work closely with that group within the software community, but also work with people and companies outside of software and IT to help them become better Project Leaders.

We come from large and small companies, financial, insurance, software development, consultants, academia, and other fields.

Benefits to You:

  • Information dissemination and feedback on your work.
  • Opportunity to meet and network with people in your community.
  • Publicity, appreciation, and applause.
At least one month before the meeting day, your coordinator will request:
  • Your Name, Title and Affiliation (as you want it to appear on meeting announcements), phone number, email address, URL (if available)
  • Title and description of your speaking topic. Description should be between 2-4 sentences long and “pack some punch” (about 100-200 words).
  • Biography should be one paragraph long, briefly explaining your credentials and experience (about 100 words). An optional photo will be included on our website and email announcements.
  • After receiving your Topic, Description, Bio and Picture, the APLN will publish them to our website and send out an email announcement to our membership.
  • Your coordinator will prepare and send you a flyer to send/pass out to your own network.
On the Day of:
  • Plan to arrive at the meeting room at 8:30 am for breakfast and networking. Presentations begin at 9:10.
  • For meetings with two speakers, plan on speaking for 30 minutes. For meetings with one speaker, plan on speaking for 60 minutes.
  • The meeting coordinator will introduce the first speaker at 9:00 a.m. Let the audience know if you will answer questions as they come up, or if you would like the audience to hold questions until the end of the presentation.
Materials and Equipment:
  • Your coordinator will expect a copy of your slides or handouts, which will be made available to APLN members on our website.
  • A computer and projector will be provided unless you request otherwise in advance.
  • We will be recording your presentation and will post it as a Podcast that is available for download to any of our registered members.
  • Please limit your presentation to relevant professional information, not sales pitches. You are welcome to discuss products and services in off-line networking conversations. We appreciate donations of door prizes.
  • The meeting room is set up an hour before the first speaker is introduced. Refreshments are served, attendance is recorded, and members of the audience network.
